Founder, Xude Yoga

Summer 2021

Xā Carter is an international yoga instructor, entrepreneur, and healing guide based in Houston, Texas. Xā has studied a variety of ancient teachings and Ayurvedic healing techniques. In 2018, Xā obtained her 200-hour certification from Fusion Yoga in Rishikesh, India. In 2019, she began Xude Yoga to create a space for BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ to be seen, heard, and acknowledged to heal from the inside out through the art of yogic practices. Xā continues to study and teach her practices virtually and in the greater Houston area.

Tell us – what excites you about your work?

Xude Yoga was created to establish safe and sacred healing spaces to serve those that are underrepresented and underserved within our communities, specifically BIPOC and LGBTQ2SIA+ folx. Every day I rise excited to be able to step into my authentic purpose, connect with and expand upon Xude’s truehearted community, and construct a business that dances with my identity.

What feels rich and abundant in your work right now?

When it comes to my overall life’s work, I feel rich in time and abundant in opportunity. I am grateful that I have been able to take my time and be present with the process of my business so I am able to find rest and play anytime throughout my day. This gives me space and energy to allow opportunities and abundance to flow with ease. My work is dedicated to all of those that feel unheard, unappreciated, and unsafe in healing communities. My work is for those that deserve to be seen, heard, acknowledged, and embraced entirely.

Who inspires you, who are you learning from, what books are you reading? We are really excited to learn this about you!

At the moment, I am heavily inspired by the sounds of Alice Coltrane, Janko Nilovic, Hubert Laws, Roy Ayers, and the Lafayette Afro Rock Band. Their sounds are allowing me to tap deeper into self and my yogic practices. I am currently reading and studying How The Body Keeps Score by Bessel van der Kolk and Sacred Woman by Queen Afua.

My work is for those that deserve to be seen, heard, acknowledged, and embraced entirely.”

What is something you didn’t know, that you now understand differently about wellness?

Most wellness spaces are not designed for us. Because of past experiences of feeling confined and disregarded in these spaces, I am now very intentional about where and when I show up, how I show up and making sure to energetically cleanse before I show up.
