Community Aid

Fall 2021

My name is Micaela Zamora (ze/zir), and I am 33 years wise. I’m going to college to get my degree in social work. I’m a mother, daughter, sister and friend. I have three children who I love dearly. I’m part of the LGBTQIA+ community. I got injured while in an abusive relationship.

I’m considered disabled but I don’t allow that to define me. I volunteer my time for my community. I love to help others and hope to have helped over 10,000 people in ten years.

How does your work make wellness more accessible for people living with disabilities?

The work I do is unique in the fact that I spend one on one time with people living with disabilities. I drive them to and from places and continue to check on them and their needs. We have organizations that don’t directly help the disabled.

What wellness offering are you providing right now?

I’m a member of the LGBTQIA+ community, and I focus on the disabled, trans BIPOC community. I help them with our local resources both online and in-person, for example with those that need help applying for Social Security or unemployment. Getting TANF (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families and/or applying for Section-8.

I’d like to use this money to make my own organization that focuses on helping others, including the disabled but not limited to. I work with the church of Latter Day Saints to supply others with food, hygiene and clothing. I’ve been doing this work for 10+years. I have disabled family members who influenced me to help others.

I’m considered disabled but I don’t allow that to define me. I volunteer my time for my community. I love to help others and hope to have helped over 10,000 people in ten years.”

Treating others the way we want to be treated is something I’ve heard since I was a child. I want to inspire others to get involved in their communities. Donate more than just money. Help our disable veterans. Bring awareness to so many homeless disabled Americans. We have so much to do and cannot rely on our government. We have to go out and make the changes we want to see in the world.
