Dandelion is the Co-Founder of Peer Support Space, a peer-led grassroots effort centered around creating healing spaces for folks with shared identities, shared lived experiences. They currently have peer support spaces for the following communities: LGBTQ+ Asian Community, Black LGBTQIA+ Community, Black Adults, Latinx Community, Indigenous Community, Disabled Community, Autistic Adults, Genderqueer/Nonbinary/Trans Community, LGBTQ+ Parents, Folks who have aged out of the foster care system. Head here for a full list of their resources.
All of our spaces are led by and for the respective community. In addition to our group spaces, we offer individual peer support services and community-led advocacy initiatives.
Since Covid, as of March 2020, our work has transitioned from in-person in Central Florida to virtual which has allowed us to connect with folks globally. We are now holding some in-person events, but we are letting our communities have agency in the decision to transition to in-person or digital (or to do hybrid options) - in this regard we are very much in a transitional stage in terms of our work.
Dandelion (they/them) is one of our Summer 2021 Grant Recipients - learn more about their work and support.
Cultivating radical peer-led spaces for healing and connection amongst queer, mad, disabled community is my passion! I love working alongside my community as we build networks of care and support that are led by and for folks with lived experience. These containers are vital, powerful, and life-saving.
At Peer Support Space we have 38 community facilitators and peer supporters each lending their wisdom, compassion, and nuanced perspectives while holding space for others. I celebrate them today and all days for all the hard work and heart work they are doing, the lives they are saving, and the community networks of care they are building.
Resting, resting, resting! Unpacking capitalism when I'm pushed to 'produce' is vital for me. Listening to my body, mind - respecting my disability and putting my needs at the forefront instead of trying to grind it out. I love to work from a place of passion and abundance. Resting, prioritizing my body-mind, and respecting my pace helps me do so.
If you're looking for spaces to connect with others, are seeking support from affirming peers, want to be in community with those with shared lived experience you can check out peersupportspace.org for more information about our free peer support offerings or follow us on Instagram at @PeerSupportSpace. There is no wrong way to do it - whatever works for you, works for you and should be honored. Whatever means, methods, strategies, approaches to healing your body-mind are valid and sacred!
