she/her

Summer 2022

Branché Foston is a Yoga Instructor, Herbalist & Founder of The Honey Block, an outdoor wellness education organization for & by Black people & POC Based in South Central LA. She loves to connect with her community in nature: whether it be over a glass of tea, with a Tree pose or on a trail. Her approach to social justice, community building & spirituality are bridged together by a love of learning from one another, from ancestors & from the land itself.

What excites you about your work right now?

What excites me most is seeing BIPOC falling in love with the outdoors after a hike, in a tea ceremony, or under the stars. Those special moments are unforgettable.

What feels rich and abundant in your work right now?

Reminding Black people that they are Indigenous to this planet & that these ancestral practices & relationships with plants & the land are a "remembering".

Who do you dedicate your work to?

I dedicate my work to Black & POC folks who are searching for deeper connection to this world, to the meaning of healing, & to nature. I dedicate my work to QTPOC who, like nature, challenge binary by simply being, I dedicate my work to my parents & ancestors for my lineage of healing work.

What’s keeping you inspired right now?

My homegirl LaLa Romero inspires me because she finds a way to make Black & Brown girls feel seen in her daily work. I'm always learning from my plant friends Miguel Ramos & Melissa Uribe who embody being in love with the land & taking good care of her. I'm currently reading The Art & Practice of Spiritual Herbalism by my mentor Empress Karen M Rose, a Black Healer & Herbalist who I had the honor of being a Level 1 & 2 Apprentice with.

How can people reading this support the work you are doing?

The best means of support would be: anyone looking to collaborate on an event/experience, helping us find a biz location in South LA, offering to volunteer services for hikes, wellness, or content (written or video) creation! We'd love to hear from you.

What something you didn’t know that now you understand differently about wellness?

I've learned how so much of our wellness journey is really about simplicity. Its not about buying a ton of candles for rituals, expensive yoga products or retreats. The medicine & the magic we are looking for is within. Less is more.

What is your own wellness practice? How do you find balance?

A (almost) daily tea practice has been a saving grace! Its a fluid form of meditation for me. Same with being outside - I try to spend as much time as possible in a local park or a friends garden. These practices soothe my body mind & spirit & bring me back into balance.
